Dharmendra Pradhan's Resignation Letter: A Translated Version
My dear young friends,
For more than forty years, I have devoted my public life to improving education and supporting the interests of students and teachers. Throughout this journey, I have firmly believed that a progressive, accessible, and high-quality education system is the foundation of a prosperous and self-reliant India.
The hopes, ambitions, and concerns of our nation's youth have always held a special place in my heart. Helping young Indians achieve their dreams has never been just a political responsibility—it has been a personal commitment.
I sincerely thank the Honorable Prime Minister for placing his trust in me and giving me the opportunity to serve the country. However, following the NEET-UG examination conducted on May 3, 2026, serious irregularities came to light that raised concerns across the nation.
As soon as these issues surfaced, the Government acted decisively. The matter was transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for an independent inquiry. The examination was cancelled, a fresh test was announced, and it was also decided that from next year onward, NEET-UG will be conducted entirely in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode to strengthen transparency and security.
During this challenging period, our foremost objective was to conduct the re-examination smoothly for more than 20 lakh aspirants. This was achieved through close coordination between the Central Government, State Governments, district administrations, and multiple public agencies working together.
Thanks to the patience and cooperation shown by students and parents, the examination held on June 21, 2026, was completed successfully.
From the very beginning, I accepted full responsibility for the developments surrounding the examination. I remained determined to ensure that deserving students would not suffer because of the actions of examination rackets or other unfair practices, and that every candidate would receive justice.
The results declared on July 16, 2026, reflected the hard work of countless students, including many from economically weaker backgrounds who achieved remarkable success. Unfortunately, even after the successful completion of the examination, certain individuals occupying responsible positions attempted to spread misinformation and create unnecessary confusion among students, which caused me great disappointment.
My faith in India's democratic values has always remained unwavering. I firmly believe that our youth are far more than the future of this nation—they are its innovators, nation-builders, and the driving force behind India's progress.
The events of the past several days have deeply saddened me. This issue has never been about protecting my personal reputation or position. My only concern has always been the well-being and confidence of India's young generation. I do not want students to become victims of uncertainty, political conflict, or unnecessary anxiety.
Keeping in mind the situation unfolding at Jantar Mantar and in different parts of the country, and to ensure that anti-national elements do not exploit the circumstances, national unity remains protected, and no student's academic future becomes trapped in prolonged legal disputes, I have decided to submit my resignation to the Honorable Prime Minister.
I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Prime Minister for his continuous guidance, confidence, and unwavering support throughout my tenure. I also thank my colleagues in the Union Council of Ministers, the officers and staff of the Ministry of Education, and everyone who contributed alongside me in serving the nation.
Serving India has always been the highest purpose of my life, and that commitment will continue unchanged. With the blessings of Lord Jagannath, I shall remain devoted to working for the aspirations of our country, the people of Odisha, and the youth of India in every way possible.
